Shipping to the Cayman Islands 101: 5 Things to Know Before You Click "Proceed to Checkout"

Ordering online is convenient, but there are a few things worth knowing when shipping your purchases to the Cayman Islands.
A little preparation before you place your order can help you manage costs, understand timelines and make the process smoother.
If you're ordering from the US or elsewhere and using a freight forwarding service to get your purchases to Cayman,
here are five things worth knowing before you hit that checkout button.
1. FREE SHIPPING IS YOUR FRIEND.
Import duty is calculated on the total invoice value, including applicable shipping charges.
✶ Hint: Look for free-shipping offers. That extra delivery charge from the retailer to your freight forwarder could cost you more than you think!
2. FEWER PACKAGES = LOWER FEES.
Government charges a fee for each individual tracking number.
Ordering 15 items from one website? You don't necessarily want 15 separate packages arriving at the warehouse.
✶ Hint: Where possible, choose to have your order held until everything is available and shipped together. Fewer packages can mean fewer charges.
3. "DELIVERED" DOESN'T MEAN IT'S ON ITS WAY TO CAYMAN.
When an online retailer says your package has been “delivered, it simply means it has reached the freight forwarding warehouse.
It still needs to be received, processed and entered into the system before it can be shipped.
✶ Hint: Allow a few extra days for warehouse processing. Delivered doesn't mean dispatched!
4. SHIPPING TAKES TIME. PLAN AHEAD!
Your package still needs to be processed, loaded, transported to Cayman, cleared by Customs and made ready for collection.
Weather, flight or vessel schedules, and Customs delays can all affect timing.
✶ Hint: Allow approximately 7–10 days from warehouse processing to collection in Cayman.
5. NO PAPERWORK = NO SHIPMENT.
Without these two important things, packages may not be identified or included on the shipping manifest for air or ocean freight:
- A PDF copy of your purchase invoice (not a forwarded confirmation email).
- Every tracking number associated with your order.
✶ Hint: Send your invoices and tracking numbers to your freight forwarder as soon as you receive them.
